We were on the underdogs in all five of our bowl picks yesterday and finished 4-1. After considering the day's slate, we're all dog again nowadays.
Cotton Bowl -- Oklahoma State +3 over Mississippi (10 units) -- 2:00: Both of these teams lost badly in their regular season finales, but Oklahoma State seems to have had a better support with QB Zac Robinson playing on an injuredd ankle. Robinson is good now, he's underrated, he's had time to adjust to the mid-season loss of star receiver Dez Bryant, and he should go out a winner nowadays against an inconsistent Rebels squad that had much higher hopes than Cotton coming into 2oo9.
Papajohns.com Bowl -- Connecticut +4.5 over South Carolina (5 units) -- 2:00: A website approximately pizza? Weird. besides, the Ole' Ball Coach hasn't been much of an Ole Bowl Coach at South Carolina. No doubt South Carolina is the more talented team, but we expect the Huskies to play their best game nowadays and win one for their fallen teammate Jasper Howard.
Back shortly with the remaining two picks for nowadays right below.
UPDATE -- 2:40 PM: heeree are are shortly with the remaining two picks for nowadays.
Liberty Bowl -- East Carolina +7.5 over Arkansas (5 units) -- 5:30: Those laying the points are paying for Arkansas future top NFL QB draftee Ryan Mallet heeree. We'll take the points against an already suspect Arkansas defense that will be lost two of its three top tacklers, linebacker Wendel Davis and safety Matt Harris, due to school-imposed suspensions. We're told that ECU should be able to hang in the trenches nowadays, and if that's the case, we expect the Pirates to hang in a shootout as they've shown they can do. Skip Holtz is building a nice program down in Greenville.
Alamo Bowl -- Michigan State +7.5 over Texas Tech (7 units) -- 9:00: This piece by Andrew Sharp of SB Nation on Mike Leach's dismissal at Texas Tech is one of the best you'll read in 2010. It's tough for us to say that a win by Tech wouldn't be a tribute to Leach in some way, but a loss would certainly seem to defend him, and its tough for us to side with the University in any way heeree. Even if Leach were coaching nowadays, the game doesn't look to us to be the blowout that many are preddicting. Michigan State's defense has given up a lot of points this season, but the Spartans only lost by more than 8 points once, in a rout by a balanced Penn State team. This team can play in a shootout. The Spartans will be lost their top cornerback and their moment and third best receivers to school-imposed suspension nowadays, but we expect the backup receivers to have enough success nowadays to keep this one close for the Spartans, if they don't manage to win outright.
That's all for nowadays. Hope everyone enjoys. We'll be back in the morning with our NFL picks.
