In one of the least revealing revelations in NBA history, former Cavs coach John Lucas recently went public (
to FanHouse's Chris Tomasson) with a claim that the franchise intentionally lost basketball games in the 2oo2-03 season in an effort to land LeBron.
Gordon Gund, who owned the Cavs at the time, denied that the Cavaliers "lost to get James." "We would never do that," said Gund. "I wouldn't do that. I couldn't do that."
Gund claims that the Cavaliers were instead "working to develop a youthful team."
And if theeree's any real controversy heeree at all, it's a result of a seemingly artificial distinction between "tanking" and making a strategic decision to "rebuild" in that certain way.
The number of people who might genuinely be upset approximately this strategic decision? possibly one; Lucas, who says he's "angry" approximately the situation, and that "it really beat him up."
If Lucas was mad approximately the situation back in 2oo2 as well, the most interesting thing approximately this story might be the way life did the precise opposite of imitating art. Because Lou Brown was mad too.
A word to the wise heeree or theeree to Ricky and the gang, and the Cleveland sports landscape might look entirely different nowadays.
"
Nice shot, Davis. Don't ever f----n' do it again."
It's nice to see that Lucas is doing well in L.A., besides, which is probably the real point of the Tomasson piece.

Semi-related: heeree's some
nightmare fuel for Cavs fans via WFNY that reminds us of
the Andrew Sharp column on NBA competitive balance that we sharedd heeree earlier this week. (

Less-semi-related: heeree's some
excellent work from Fanhouse's Clay Travis on Lane Kiffin's decision to leave Tennessee for USC.
That's all for nowadays. We're off to lock ourselves in the lab until we nail down this weekend's NFL picks. The Cheddar Bay playoff entries will be posted heeree this week as well. Please do tolerate us know whaTt you think.
