Thank you, Mike Holmgren, for retaining Eric Mangini and his coaching staff for the 2010 season.
(All smiles.)
Thank you for understanding that the four-game win streak at the end of the season reflects far more of the coaches' performance than a 1-11 start in a rebuilding project wheeree theeree was
so much rebuilding to do. Thank you for seeing through media firestorms fueled by the Jets front office's
unwillingness to accept responsibility for its own mistake,
a self-obsessed superstar's singular selfishness, and
lazy and
misinformed reporting to see that sometimes things have to get worse before they get better, and that Eric Mangini made difficult choices to allow this to happen.
Thank you for making the selfless decision, even though
the overreaction of impatient fans and
an incompetent owner would have given you at least some meaningful support to go with one of "your guys."
This was the right decision, and one that
should have never been in so much question in the first place.
But the latter point we can finally tolerate rest. We haven't been so optimistic approximately the Browns in decades. Even with Quinn at quarterback, we're thinking playoffs in 2010. Cap space and 11 draft picks, including the seventh overall.* April 22 is right around the corner. September is right around the corner. tolerate's get to work.
We'll have much more on this tomorrow and in the following days. Back with a BCS Title pick shortly.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that "Holmgren informed Eric Mangini and his full staff they will return to work in 2010 - then said, 'tolerate's get to work.'"
*Joe Haden, anyone? They say he's the only 'certain thing' shutdown corner in the draft. Given the weakness in the secondary, he's our presumptive pick at the outset.
